25 Rochester City School District school bus drivers called in sick or were absent on Monday, leaving the district unable to cover those runs. The district is now about 80 drivers short of being able to run its full schedule, and has no backups for drivers who call in sick.
In a pre-recorded message, Superintendent Dr. Leslie Myers-Small said more children have a bus than on day one of the school season, but still faces a significant transportation challenge with absences.
The district says there’s no indication this was a mass action, but the district’s transportation director told 13 WHAM they had 50 uncovered routes on Monday because of the outages.
