The two-year-old Rochester boy shot in the head on Friday remains in guarded condition today at Strong Memorial Hospital, and according to court documents, he’s suffering from a life-threatening brain injury.
Those papers say Zayden Phillips was shot by his father, 36-year-old Charles Timothy Phillips. He had just gotten out of jail on parole from a 2009 first degree robbery conviction. Prosecutors say he was engaging in reckless behavior with an illegal nine millimeter handgun when his son was shot, creating a grave risk of death.
Phillips pleaded “not guilty” over the weekend to charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
