It appears two Republicans are going head-to-head for the right to challenge Congresswoman Louise Slaughter in the fall.
Last week, neurosurgeon James Maxwell announced he’s seeking the Republican Nomination for the 25th U.S. House District, the seat now held by Democrat Slaughter. Yesterday, Gates Supervisor Mark Assini Tweeted that he’ll be making an announcement about the seat next week, adding a strong hint that he’s running.

Assini has challenged Slaughter in the last two elections, coming very close to beating her four years ago in a race that was decided by absentee ballots. He lost by 12 points two years ago in a presidential election year that brought out substantially more voters.
Slaughter was first elected in 1986 and has been re-elected 15 times.
