The 19th Ward Community Association is marking Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday on Monday with a neighborhood illumination.

The Association organized in 1965 to bring an integrated, prosperous urban community to southwest Rochester. It has advocated since then for fair housing, home ownership, crime prevention and a vibrant community, values that Dr. King called “the Beloved Community.”

This year they’ve organized neighbors to “light up the night” with luminaria, and neighbors are offering their front yards as “hot spots” where coffee and chili will be on hand and a chance to meet neighbors throughout the ward.

They’re having a kickoff Saturday afternoon, and the luminary evening is on Monday between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m.
