A pair of 15-year-olds are under arrest on a host of charges after carjacking a 72-year-old Rochester resident and leading city police on a chase in a stolen SUV.
Police are not releasing the teenagers’ names due to their age. They say the carjacking took place on Garland Avenue and police spotted the SUV a short time later on Fulton Avenue. During the pursuit, a police car crashed into a utility pole near Avenue E and St. Paul Street, bringing the pole down. The patrol car burst into flames and an officer suffered a wrist injury in the crash.
The chase continued to Buffalo and Howard Road in Gates, where the teens crashed into another car and were apprehended. One person in the second car was treated at the hospital.
The teens are charged with robbery, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and more charges linked to the chase and crash. They’re being held in a juvenile detention facility outside of Monroe County.
