A 12-year-old boy is dead and two Rochester police officers are recovering from burns after fire hit a house on Hague Street near Campbell Street this morning.

Rochester Police happened to be across the street when the fire broke out, and they ran to help rescue the eight occupants of the house.

Rochester firefighters arrived and located the boy, who died after being taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. In all, two adults and six children were rescued from the house, including the child who later died.

Firefighters say the house is a wreck and they’re working to determine the cause of the fire.
