A man was seriously injured in a two-alarm fire early this morning when a house at 170 Myrtle Street in Rochester went up in flames.
The Rochester Fire Department says the fire was reported at 12:52 a.m. Crews arrived to find a two-family house fully engulfed in flames and starting to spread to the neighboring house. They immediately called the second alarm.
Crews rescued the seriously injured man from a second floor apartment and he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A woman was also taken to the hospital with less serious injuries. The rest of the eight residents who were home at the time made it out safely.
Firefighters were able to save the neighboring homes, but 172 Myrtle was destroyed and the remains will be demolished. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
